Salk Neuroscience Bioinformatics Core

We provide one of two core bioinformatics services for the La Jolla Neuroscience Blueprint Initiative. The other core is at the Burnham Institute. Researchers from institutions at La Jolla and San Diego may use either core. The specific strenghts of the Salk core include:

  • Protein sequence analysis, particularly using comparative genomics and evolution.
  • Determining the mechanism and logic of gene expression patterns by comparative genomics of promoters linked to expression studies. This includes detailed analysis of gene expression data, a custom pipeline for comparative genomics-driven promoter profiling, and exploration of gene networks and interactions from published databases.
  • Signal transduction, particularly through Protein Kinase regulation.
At this point, there is no recharge for qualified use of the Salk core for small to moderate-sized projects (up to 100 hours of effort). Funding for larger projects is negotiated on an individual basis. Specific requests for bioinformatics support under the blueprint intiative can be made to Eric Scheeff (contact).
