Razavi Newman Center for BioinformaticsThe center provides support and consulation for bioinformatics use throughout Salk. The center is named in honor of Salk trustee Howard Newman and his wife Maryam Razavi, who provided generous funding to establish the center, and directed by Dr. Gerard Manning. ServicesThe center's mandate is to enable the use of bioinformatics approaches throughout Salk. To that end, we collaborate, consult, and help both with choosing bioinformatics approaches and in carrying them out. We also operate a number of bioinformatics servers and can help in design and creation of tools and databases. If you have any question about the utility of bioinformatics in your work, please give us a call! We have a particular focus on protein sequence analysis, comparative genomics and model organism biology, but are open to assist with all aspects of bioinformatics and computational biology.
ResearchThe center carries out both purely bioinformatics and collaborative research projects. Our main focus is on the genomics and evolution of protein kinases. We also work on metagenomic sequence analysis, growing out of a collaboration with the Venter Global Ocean Survey project, and on several projects related to promoter analysis through comparative genomics.
LocationWe are on the 6th floor of the south building, west office wing (directly above the cafeteria). Off-campus visitors should check these directions. |
